| Warrington Academy's first home game !
Warrington Academy 31 Bolton 0
Warrington RUFC, first home game of the season saw their highly promising
under 17s take on Bolton. The same fixture last season had resulted in a
narrow win to Bolton and a tight encounter was expected. The opening
exchanges demonstrated that the two packs were pretty evenly matched and
early possession was shared. After 15 minutes Warrington's electric back
line broke the dead lock, the pack won turnover ball in their own half and
the ball was moved at pace to winger Mike Lee. Lee showed his devastating
pace to break the Bolton cover defence and almost make the line, however an
excellent tackle bought him down close to the line. Incredibly in the act
of being tackled he off loaded the ball to outside centre Richard Burnett,
who finished off a great Warrington try.
Bolton continued to compete and it required stiff Warrington defence to
keep them at bay, late in the first half however, Warrington again scored a
great try with this time the outstanding Hughes at inside centre dancing
his way through the Bolton defence to make it to the line.
The second half was similar to the first with Warrington's breathless style
of play taking it's toll on the pack, the game became a little disjointed.
However tries from winger Dolan, another from Hughes and one for Lee saw
Warrington home. The half was marred by an injury to second row "Penno" who
was taken to hospital with a dislocated knee cap and all in the squad and
at the club wish him a speedy recovery.
Warrington take on Clitheroe at home next Sunday at 12.30.
