Flyde 10 Warrington 26
Warrington U17s academy side, provided an insight to the rich talent that
lies within the squad, in their opening game of the season. Playing away to
a Fylde side that the week before had put 50 points past their opposition,
the team was expecting a tough game and that is exactly what transpired.
Warrington went behind to an early Fylde try which came from an excellent
driving maul.
Warrington brushed themselves down and began to exert
territorial pressure on their opposition, lead by their playmaker at 10
Craig Wolvine. Eventually the pressure lead to a try scored from close
range by Chris White, followed by another soon after from the excellent
Kieran Hughes playing at centre. An superb solo effort from the Fylde
fullback left Warrington 14 10 up at half time with Captain and full back
Danny Newens slotting both conversions.
Warrington effectively closed the game out straight from the second half
kick off when Fylde failed to catch the kick off and stand out forward Luke
Dobbs pounced on the bouncing ball and race 40 yards to score.
Warrington
went on to score another try when Hughes showed a clean pair of heels to
the scrambling Fylde defence to score his second of the afternoon.
Fylde did not let their heads drop and only determined defence kept them
from scoring after a period of prolonged pressure on the Warrington line. Time ran out however and Warrington notched up a good opening victory.
