Despite the cold weather, the teams were able after an hours wait finally get to play something. The game it was decided for safety should be played using tag rules which suits Warringtons open play and quick ball, and it wasn't long before the first of 17 tries were recorded. After the break it was agreed the game should be played in the same way, with Warrington continuing to attack the Sefton line, it was during this half that due to poor discipline in the Warrington line, Sefton were able to score in the corner, giving them some hope.
During the last 15 minutes of the match normal rules were allowed, and looking at the Sefton pack looked like it might be concentrated down the middle if they were to gain posation, with some good ball handling and running Warrington finally took the game out of Sefton's reach, despite the score line, the Sefton team always remained positive, defending well with some good tackles coming in.
