Heath Primary Win Warrington Tag Festival
Stockton Heath Primary ran out eventual winners of
the Warrington schools tag rugby festival, which took
place at Warrington Sports Club on 19th June. Even so
it was a very close run thing and it needed a Golden
Try from Caitlin Hayes to gain a hard won victory over
Penketh County Primary in the final.
Eleven teams, from years 5 and 6, had taken part in
the competition and each of these had been a winner
of its local cluster competition. The event had been
organised and led by student sports leaders from Broomfields
High School with enthusiastic support from Julie Pennington,
PE teacher at Broomfields and Pete Allen, the Warrington
Rugby Union Community Coach, who is based at Warrington
RUFC. The trophy and the finalists' medals were presented
by Warrington mayor Councillor Celia Jordan, who is
herself from Stockton Heath.
The winner of the festival earns the right to represent
Warrington at the Cheshire Youth Games, which take place
at Ellesmere Port on the 23rd June. Unfortunately, one
of the Stockton Heath players is holding a birthday
party on that day, to which all the team have been invited.
Their place at the Youth Games will be taken by Penketh
CP. I don't know what Bill Shankley would have made
of that.
The teams taking part were:
Alderman Bolton
Penketh South
Penketh CP
Gorse Covert
St Monica's
Sankey Cluster (4)
Thelwall Juniors
Stockton Heath
