| Warrington 21pts - Crewe & Nantwich 0pts
Warrington maintained their promotional push with a polished win on Saturday. By ‘nilling’ their opposition they also avenged their early season defeat.
Warrington started strongly and kept up the pace throughout the game. With better handling and better awareness of when to release the ball they could have gone on to score many more points against a side that were a pale shadow of the team that played so well against Warrington back in September.
Andy Almond put Warrington ahead with an early penalty goal after C&N were caught offside at the ruck. Shortly after Neil Sullivan crashed over after a sweeping move had taken play downfield with excellent handling by the backs. Although Warrington continued to dominate but could only manage one further try before the interval when Kevin Jones evaded his opposite number and sprinted into the corner for a well taken individual try.
Almond’s second penalty just after half time stretched Warrington further ahead and the pattern of play continued much the same as in the first half. However, the home team had to wait until the last quarter of the game before they added to their points total when a catch and drive following a lineout saw veteran flanker John Callander claim the touchdown and make the points safe.
With 5 games remaining Warrington lie in 3rd place in the League and will need to win all their remaining matches and hope for a further slip up from either Sefton or Dukinfield.
