Liverpool Collegiate 10pts - Warrington RUFC 31pts

Warrington were flattered by the final scoreline in this game last Saturday as their spirited opposition made them fight all the way for these League Points.  In fact Warrington trailed 7pts-10 at half time and at that stage it seemed likely that the visitors would go on to win the game.

After a three week break Warrington started well and a neat offload by Pete Cannon saw Anton Fields nip under the posts to open the scoring.  However, a dropped ball at the restart saw Collegiate gain the ascendancy and within 10 minutes they had scored two well worked tries and taken the lead.  By contrast Warrington played well within their capability and a lack of confidence meant they finished the half by far the inferior team.

Ten minutes into the second half Warrington’s man-of-the-match Andy Almond kicked a penalty goal to level the score and despite the loss of Cannon to injury the home side started to gain the upper hand and scored three converted tries in the final quarter of the game.

Eddie Fields who had another good game in the backrow supported well to go in under the posts, before Kevin Jones pooped up from nowhere to swat off two would-be tacklers to cross the line.  In the final move of the match the icing on the cake was supplied by veteran John Callander who finished off after a strong run from the returning Neil Sullivan.

The win kept Warrington very much in contention for promotion and have a week off this weekend. They then face two tough tasks against the top two sides in the League starting at Sefton on 19th January.
