WARRINGTON vs OLDERSHAW

Warrington recorded their biggest win in over 7 years with the ‘nilling’ of visitors Oldershaw last Saturday.

Although the visitors competing equally in the opening quarter of the game it was the second period of the first half that Warrington got on top and by the interval led by 19-0.  Warrington’s inspiration was the half back combination of Cannon and James who together with centre Anton Fields were behind all that the home team did well.  However, it was the incisive pace of James Shaw at outside centre that took the eye as he scored his first ever hat trick for the team.

With a steady flow of possession the visitors were pinned back deep into their own half for long periods early on but it took until the 27th minute before Warrington took the lead when skipper Paul Thompson burrowed his way over from close range.  Good handling put full back Andy Almond over for the first of his two tries before Shaw got on the try list for the first time when a defensive error gave him a clear run in to the line with Andy James adding two conversions.

The visitors failed to cope with Warrington’s good handling and excellent support play and in the second period Warrington added 38 points without reply.  Number 8 Neil Sullivan twice went over, one from a pushover and the other with excellent backing up, Almond completed his double and Shaw’s pace saw him complete his hattrick.  Late in the game the introduction of mike Addison into the pack added a lot of power and replacement Kevin Jones completed the scoring with a neat touchdown at the end of the game.  With Andy James adding a further four conversion the rout was completed.

This Saturday a pre match luncheon for former players will precede the last home game of 2007 when Warrington entertain the once mighty Orrell with a 2.15pm kick off.  Last Saturday’s win took Warrington to third in the League and another win will see them consolidate this position.
