| Crewe and Nantwich 2nd XV-15 - Warrington 2nd XV-15
Warrington 2nd team progress to the semi-final of the cup after a draw with Crewe and Nantwich, but allowed Warrington to go through on the basis that they scored 3 tries and Crewe and Nantwich only scored 2. The game was a real scrappy affair and never really got going, nor did it allow Warrington to play their typical free flowing rugby.
Warrington went behind early on through a well worked C and N try. Warrington soon scored their own try through the fleet footed John Hughes who crossed just before half time. After the break Warrington again crossed the white wash, this time through no 8 Wheatley. Warrington seemed clear of danger when Flint made a marvellous break and fed Rockey who went under the posts to make the score 10-15. However from the re start, Warrington failed to clear their lines and C and N went in the corner to even the scores. If the stand off had kicked the conversion, then Warrington would have been out of the cup. However, the kicker missed, the final whistle went and Warrington were again winners.
It is true to say that this was not Warrington's best performance of the season, but all credit must go to the opposition who tackled hard all day and stuck to their game plan.
Man of the Match Flint ran hard all day, as did Griffiths at full back.
Coach Stewart Coleman said after the game " This was a tough game indeed, with many of the lads saying it was the hardest game of the season. We now play Wigan at home in the next round and although we have already beaten them twice this season, Wigan are always a tough prospect. Hopefully our band of supporters who supported us so well at Crewe will follow us all the way to the final"
