| Warrington 2nd xv- 29 - Marple 2nd xv- 19
Warrington 2nd team have now won 9 out of their last 10 games. They are in the semi-final of the cup, after beating the cup holders. They have beaten the league leaders twice, top the form league and are pushing for promotion. So it got even better when Warrington 2nd team beat an in form Marple team at home on Saturday. Warrington again had a full squad of 20 players, all of whom contributed to the excellent display.
Warrington were never really troubled by a well organised Marple team who were considerably bigger than the Warrington team. However, the speed and technique of the Warrington team always kept their noses in front. Tries came from Whealtey, Hughes, Mark Tickle, Leah and Ryan Mullen. Dan Griffiths again being on form with his kicking.
Warrington had a set back early on in the game, when Mullen snr had to leave the field with a broken shoulder after a collision with a certain Mr Barrie McDermott, ex GB and Leeds Rhino forward. This was a disappoiniting way for Mullen to potentially end his season as he was playing the rugby of a man half his age.
Warrington soon found gaps and with a platform again laid by the front five, the Marple backs could not live with the pace of the Warrington backs. Rickard and Rockey both made welcome and impressive returns to rugby after their long lay off with injuries. Man of the match Haddon ran hard all day and made yards at every opportunity. Kerai, at skipper for the day also excelled in the loose.
Coach Stewart Coleman said after the game " I told the boys that they were playing for places for next week and the week after which is the cup quarter final. Selection will be tough as many of the lads really put their hands up to be counted"
Warrington play Rossendale at home on saturday, the team that has beaten them in that run of games.
