| Warrington Second Team 20 - Sale FC Second Team 13
Warrington progressed to the next round of the Miller Homes Trophy after the best performance of the season so far. Warrington beat a very strong Sale FC Team playing a fast and open rucking game. Warrington went ahead through a typical rolling maul try scored by the ever improving Tierney, who was supported by the pack. Griffiths slotted over two half way penalties in the first half and he ran hard and supported well all day.
The back row of Farrell, Wheatley and Kerai were ever present at the ruck situation and allowed Warrington to get the upper hand at this aspect of the game. Although Mullen Senior was yellow carded in his first moment of action, Warrington held out and added two further penalties through Griffiths. The Centre combination of Rockey and Mullen Junior laid the platform in the midfield although Rockey sustained another injury to his knee. Perhaps the standout performers for Warrington were the wingers Mark Tickle and Ross Leah who worked tirelessly all day.
Warrington Second Team now await to see who they play in the next round of the Cup. Coach Stewart Coleman said after the game 'this was our best result of the season as it displayed a typical Warrington performance which included togetherness, grit and determination. We are really looking forward to the next challenge that awaits us in the Cup'.
