Warrington 2nd XV - 30pts - Vale of Lune 2nd XV - 5pts

Warrington 2nd team won this game comfortably, but in fairness the score could have been more if wasn’t for some excellent Vale of Lune defence throughout the game. Warrington bombed 3 scoreable tries and some last ditch defence by Vale saved another certain 3 tries.

Warrington’s handling at times was sloppy and too many passes were not going to hand, however the never say die attitude of the squad pulled them through the game and consolidate Warrington’s position of third in the league. Mullen was again outstanding on the wing and scored two tries with fancy footwork. The other scorers were the ever supporting Hughes and Griffiths jnr who went over out wide. McDermott and Griffiths jnr kicked the rest of the points.

The front row of Tickle, Park and Griffiths snr were outstanding as they pushed a bigger Vale pack back all day. Ross Leah made a welcome return from injury as he played the last 20 minutes on the wing The inclusion of skipper Turner and no7 Kerai added some extra firepower in the 2nd half and this allowed West to run a little wider and break the gain line.

Warrington have one game left until their semi-final against Wigan on 15th March.

Coach Stewart Coleman said after the game “ This was a tough game for us as Vale never gave up the chase and made us work for every bit of ball we had. Our basic skills of catching and passing must improve for next week.”
