U16s Warrington 32 - Tarleton 18
Following a embarrassing performance last week against Broughton Park, Warrington had to get their "Rugby Heads" on and prove to the coaches and parents and more importantly themselves that they were capable of putting in a better performance.
In a hard fought game against a physically bigger team Warrington showed what they were capable of with some good work by the forwards. First across the line was Joe Guest after a blistering run from half way to place down under the sticks and duly convert. Shortly after Ryan Thomson used his power to crash through, giving Joe Guest a simple conversion. Tarleton responded with 6 points through a couple of unnecessary penalties and a try. Joe Guest added another 6 points for Warrington with two penalties.
Now this is the difference from last week........ the guys didn't think "we're in the lead so we've won", instead they kept the pressure on with the forwards looking as though they wanted the ball and the backs moving up quickly up on the Tarleton line. Tarleton had a chance late in the half, however some awesome defending on their line Warrington went into the second half with a 20 - 11 lead. Five minutes into the second half Warrington dipped the concentration level and well worked converted try brought Tarleton back into the game. Warrington's response was a sweet piece of fast movement along the line giving James Turton his first U16's try all be it season early. Again some awesome defending prevented a Tarleton revival. Again some outstanding work from the backs gave Taylor Wheat a golden opportunity, but for whatever reason it was not to be. In the last ten minutes with some good work from the forwards Chris Owens went across the line to give a final score line of 32 -18.
The whole performance was in stark contrast to the previous week and the guys proved that they do have the skill and ability to deliver. Not one man had a bad game, everyone gave total commitment, particular mention must go the two youngsters Jame Turnton and Panache who gave outstanding performances, with Panache doing an huge amount of work in the rucks, Sean Phillips brought down guys 3 times his size with two quality tackles.> <>Man of the match went to Ryan Thomson, for his commitment, placing his body on the line to secure ball and raw power in driving through the Tarleton line, not to mention the earth shattering tackle in the second half.
Well done guys lets do exactly the same next week....there is no reason not to!
