Warrington RUFC, Warrington Rugby Union Sports Club

Welcome to Warrington Rugby Union Club
1ST XV OFF TO A SLOW START IN 2011
Warrington RUFC 1st XV has started the New Year with two successive 19pt defeats. Hardly the impact they were hoping to make in their bid to escape the clutches of relegation. The outing at West Park was a close run affair for 70 minutes before a man in the sin-bin led to a 17 point flourish in the closing minutes for the home side. Bowdon, was a different matter, as they played a fast, open game and we were left hanging on for most of the game – 2 players, to their 2 in the sin-bin did not help – interestingly all inside the last quarter of an hour of the game.
Liverpool Collegiate edged a one point win at Winnington for a 5 point day outlast Saturday to add to their 2 League points earned, 1 point defeat the previous week – if that makes sense. Orrell were surprise winners over Hoylake so a clear gap has now appeared between the bottom two clubs – Ormskirk and Warrington – and the rest of the pack. With some games due to be rearranged we need the sides above us to fail to take advantage to give us some hope.
The 2nd XV continue to go from strength to strength and it seems the race for promotion in their League is between three clubs – Caldy 3’s and Collegiate 2’s being the other clubs involved.
The 3rd XV seem to be on a “win one lose one” rollercoaster at the moment but should finish at a comfortable half way mark in the League at the end of the season.
And finally, the next opportunity to see the Past Masters play again, under the stewardship of Andy Walker, will be on the 28th January when they entertain Sandbach at WSC. This is a team with a combined experience of over 1,000 1st XV games so come along and learn some new tricks!
