Oswestry 2nd XV 48 - Warrington 2nd XV 12
After beating Oswestry in a cup match the previous week, Warrington’s weakened second string were unable to achieve a repeat performance in this league game at Oswestry. Totally out-muscled up front, where Oswestry enjoyed a 3-stone advantage per man, Warrington battled heroically but, like Canute, were unable to stem the inevitable tide.
Ironically, Warrington were the first on the scoreboard, when James Shaw picked up a loose Oswestry pass to scorch over from 40 yards and allow Presley an easy conversion. Unfortunately, the Oswestry pack then took control and denied Warrington any further possession so that they turned round 27-7 in the lead.
Warrington managed one try in the second half, when Mick Mullen sliced though a gap to find his son in support and Rhiann Mullen showed his exceptional pace to touch down. However, Oswestry’s superiority up front proved crucial and they scored a further three tries to seal their victory.
