Warrington’s second string ran out of steam in the second half of this match but overall had no answer to the all-round dominance of a strong Caldy outfit.

The highlight of the first half was a moment of pure genius from Warrington’s talented second row Hughes, who took a quick tap penalty on the halfway line and demonstrated his impressive turn of speed by outpacing the confused Caldy defence to touch down under theposts. Unfortunately, the visitors replied with two well-taken tries to turn round 12-7 ahead.

Warrington’s defence deteriorated in the second period, whenCaldy proved quicker to the break-down and turned over Warrington ball with annoying regularity. However, the home side refused to be dominated especially through Mark Tickle, who tackled heroically, and Whitehead, who put in his usual non-stop performance.
