Warrington 3rd XV 19 - Lymm 3rd XV 38
Warrington suffered their usual 1st half somnambulism against a feisty Lymm side in this local Derby and were unable to come back from a 21-5 half time deficit. However, once again they showed what a good second half side they are and if they can manage to play two second halves in every game they will be a force to be reckoned with.
Warrington went behind inside the first ten minutes when their aggressive back row powered over after three phases. They soon took their tally to 14 before Warrington replied with try from Craig Davies who scrambled over following a quick tap penalty. Lymm replied with their third try before the turnaround.
The visitors increased their lead early in the second period but Warrington responded with a good try from Chas McElroy, who took a quick tap penalty in the opposition 22, dummied to Mike Mullen and sailed over. Presley converted.
Lymm put the game beyond contention with a further converted try and a penalty but Warrington finished off the scoring when Barry Jones, who had been guarding the same square meter of ground five yards from the Lymm line for four minutes suddenly found the ball in his hands. Showing great presence of mind he started to run towards the Lymm line, confusing the opposing full back with the hint of a sidestep and touched down to everybody’s amazement. Craig Davis converted.
